This was declared by Leader Manmohan Singh on 26 February 2012 at Madras College, during the inaugural service of the festivals to check the 125th commemoration of the introduction of the Indian mathematical virtuoso Srinivasa Ramanujan (22 Dec 1887-26 Apr 1920). On this event Singh additionally reported that 2012 would be praised as the Public Mathematics Year.
